Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Super bulky yarn in red (such as velvet or blanket yarn).
  • Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm crochet hook.
  • Stuffing: Polyester fiberfill.
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terminology)

  • MR: magic ring.
  • St(s): stitch(es).
  • Sc: single crochet.
  • Inc: increase (2 sc in the same stitch).
  • Dec: decrease (invisible decrease recommended).
  • FO: fasten off

Finished Size

When completed using the recommended bulky yarn and hook size, your finished crochet heart will measure approximately 5.7 inches wide and 6.1 inches tall (14.5 cm x 15.5 cm).

Upper Lobes (Make 2)

Start with red yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in a MR (6)
Round 2: inc in each st around (12)
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x6 (18)
Round 4: sc in each st around (18)
Round 5: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
Round 6: sc in each st around (24)
FO the first lobe. Do not fasten off the second lobe.

Joining the Pieces and Shaping the Body

Round 7: Join the second lobe to the first one with a sc (this counts as the first stitch of the round). Sc in the remaining 23 sts of the first lobe, then sc in all 24 sts of the second lobe (48)

Rounds 8-9 (2 rounds): sc in each st around (48)
Round 10: (6 sc, dec) x6 (42)

Start stuffing firmly and continue stuffing as you go down.
