Using super bulky plush yarn and a 4.5 mm hook, your finished squid will measure about 11 cm tall (18 cm total length including tentacles) and 7 cm wide. Materials Needed
- Yarn: Super bulky plush yarn in blue (or your preferred color/s).
- Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm hook.
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle.
- Eyes: 8 mm safety eyes.
- Stuffing: Fiberfill stuffing (polyfill).
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- MR: magic ring.
- St(s): stitch/es.
- Sc: single crochet.
- Sk: skip.
- Inc: increase.
- Dec: decrease.
- Hdc: half double crochet.
- Sl st: slip stitch.
- Ch: chain.

Crocheting the Body
Start with the main color
Round 1: 6 sc in a MR (6)
Round 2: (1 sc, inc) x3 (9)
Round 3: (2 sc, inc) x3 (12)
Round 4: (3 sc, inc) x3 (15)
Round 5: (4 sc, inc) x3 (18)
Round 6: 6 sc, sk 3, 6 sc, sk 3 (12)
Round 7: (sc, inc) x6 (18)
Round 8: 18 sc (18)
Round 9: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
Rounds 10-11 (2 rounds): 24 sc (24)
Round 12: (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)
Rounds 13-14 (2 rounds): 18 sc (18)
Place safety eyes between rounds 12 & 13, 4 sts apart.
Stuff the piece firmly.
Continue:
Round 15: (sc, dec) x6 (12)
Round 16: To form the tentacles: [ch 12, 4 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, then 1 sl st FLO in next st of the round] x12. (Important: put a marker in the first back loop)
Round 17: 12 sc BLO (start in the back loop you marked in previous round). (12)
Round 18: 6 dec (6)
FO, leaving a long tail. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the 6 remaining sts and pull tight to close. Weave the end inside.
Attach yarn to the open sides at the top of the squid. Thread the yarn through the stitches of the small gap to pull it closed. Fasten off and weave the ends inside.
